M43 Ear Muffs Wehrmacht

The term “M43 Ear Muffs” for the Wehrmacht refers to separate, removable wool earmuffs that were designed to be inserted into the M43 field cap to provide ear protection in cold weather, especially on the Eastern Front. These were not a permanent feature of the cap itself but were a distinct accessory, made of field-grey cloth with ribbons to tie them under the chin, and were used to supplement the M43 cap’s built-in flaps. The M43 field cap was introduced in 1943 as a replacement for earlier models, and the earmuffs were a response to the inadequacies of the older caps in winter conditions.
