The history of the MP38/40 magazine pouch, or Magazintasche, began in 1938 with the introduction of the MP38 submachine gun. The standard pouches were issued in pairs (left and right) and each held three 32-round magazines, with the left pouch featuring an additional compartment for a speed loader. Over the course of the war, a wide variety of materials like leather, rayon, and canvas were used in production, leading to different designs and color variations, though markings were often absent or unreadable. These pouches were used by the German Army, Luftwaffe, and Waffen-SS and saw continued use and variation throughout and after the war.
