The US Army’s HBT Shirt OD No. 7 history began in 1943 when it replaced the less effective sage green version due to poor concealment properties. Officially named “Jacket, Herringbone Twill, Special OD Shade 7,” this darker olive drab uniform was developed after extensive testing and was made available to troops to be worn as a combat, fatigue, or work uniform throughout World War II.
