The Wehrmacht Sumpftarn Smock (Tarnhemd) featured the “marsh” or “tan and water” camouflage pattern (Sumpftarnmuster), introduced in 1943. This pattern was a derivation of the earlier Splittertarn but with blurred, less jagged edges in olive-drab, dark green, and maroon on a tan background, designed to blend into forest and marsh environments. Made of lightweight cotton/rayon blend, the second pattern version included an integral hood and drawstring adjustments at the waist and neck. Often called “sniper smocks”, they were worn over the standard uniform for enhanced concealment.
