The US Army M43 Combat Boot was approved in 1943 to replace older, separate boot-and-legging systems. These “double-buckle” boots featured a unique rough-out leather design with two buckles on an integrated ankle gaiter, offering better protection and convenience. Though officially issued in late 1943, they became more widespread in 1944-1945 and were used by paratrooper replacements and other servicemen until the end of World War II.
