US Army HBT Trousers OD NO.3 were introduced in 1941 as part of the first green, herringbone twill (HBT) uniform, replacing the blue denim fatigues for wear in hot climates. These 1st pattern trousers were characterized by a high waist, straight legs, and the absence of cargo leg pockets. They were a sturdy and durable work uniform that was also widely used as a combat/fatigue trouser during WWII, featuring a six-button fly, two front pockets, two rear seat pockets, and metal buttons, often with a 13-star design.
